General Motors is selling its 49.99% stake in its joint-venture electric vehicle battery unit to partner Samsung SDI. Reuters reports the South Korean battery maker announced on August 11 it will end its joint venture agreement to build a battery manufacturing factory with GM in Indiana, announced August 2024. In March, GM and LG Energy Solution also announced a decision to diversify production at another EV battery plant in Tennessee to make batteries for ESS. The two partners have now decided to seek other forms of cooperation other than the joint venture," Samsung SDI said in a statement. In a separate agreement, Samsung SDI and GM will jointly develop next-generation prismatic batteries for potential future EV applications, Samsung said.
