Police partnered with Comox Air Services’ Air 8 helicopter on Sunday as part of an initiative targeting dangerous driving by both motorists and motorcyclists.
RCMP say the operation was launched in response to public concerns about dangerous driving involving motorcycles.
While officers on the ground identified and investigated potential violations, the helicopter monitored traffic and vehicle movements from above.
Police witnessed 46 traffic violations and handed out 33 charges under the Motor Vehicle Act along with eight warnings.
Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving in Nanaimo is encouraged to report it to RCMP when it is safe to do so by calling the detachment’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
