After the Elk fire burning near Lake City doubled in size late last week, fire growth has slowed back down and containment held through the weekend. Growth toward Lake City continued into Saturday, when the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team reported the size at 6,213 acres and containment at 34%. The fire is primarily spreading through dead and down beetle-killed trees, according to the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 2, which took over command of the fire on Sunday.
