THATCHER — The Thatcher Town Council has moved its regular meeting up a week this month. The Safford City Council also discussed the “previous intergovernmental agreement /contract between the City of Safford and Town of Thatcher for the Mt. Graham Golf Course” at its Aug. 10 meeting; however, Safford Council’s discussion was in executive session closed to the public. Despite the golf course being within Thatcher Town limits, it is City of Safford property and, in January 2025, the Safford City Council authorized then City Manager John Cassella to renegotiate the agreement between Safford and Thatcher for operations of the golf course. With Safford funding operations on its own and, due to increased expenses, in June 2026 the City Council approved a $440,000 amendment to the golf course’s budget.
