Former Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Six, Dr Veerasammy Ramayya, has been released on $200,000 station bail as police continue their investigation into the fatal accident at Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, which claimed the life of 42-year-old Ishwarnauth Bisram. Ramayya, 79, had been taken into police custody following the July 8, 2026 accident in which Bisram was struck while crossing the Nigg Public Road. Ramayya, meanwhile, is a well-known figure in the Berbice political landscape and previously served as Regional Executive Officer of Region Six. Following the APNU+AFC coalition’s victory at the 2015 elections, Ramayya was appointed Regional Executive Officer of Region Six. Ahead of the 2025 General and Regional Elections, he again switched political allegiance, this time joining the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party.
