The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) recently announced that over the past six months, the institution has acquired approximately 118 works of art done by both international and Baltimore-based artists.
Sixty-four of these works were a gift from Constance R. Caplan, a former board chair for the BMA; her art collection was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020.
The new influx of artwork to the BMA spans several different disciplines, including fashion and design, sculptural and mixed media installation works, paintings and works on paper.
Other artists whose work is in the recent acquisition include several artists with significant ties to Baltimore, including Amy Sherald, Louis Fratino, Helen Frederick, Curran Hatleberg, Jae Ko, Paul Rucker, Oswaldo Guayasamín and Arvie Smith.
The Baltimore Museum of Art has had a fruitful couple of years: in 2025, the museum was promised more than $10 million towards educational programming by the philanthropists Amy and Marc Meadows.
