HQThe issue of digital rights has perhaps been the hottest topic in the gaming world ever since Sony announced it would be phasing out physical games starting in January 2028. This leads one to suspect the PlayStation 6 won't have a disc drive and the era when you could actually own games is over in Sony's ecosystem. Today, the debate has flared up again following the shut down of the cloud servers for the Switch version of Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Although this came as no surprise, as Switch owners had been given a warning earlier this year, it still raises the question of what publishers should be allowed to do to gamers, and what obligations they actually ought to have. The current trend is heading towards increasingly weaker protections, and the risk is that a large portion of the games you've purchased simply won't be playable in the future.
