Westminster Diary: New PM needs to make credible plan
['Solihull Editorial']
The Solihull Observer
Whilst everyone should wish Andy Burnham well personally, it is right this change prompts a more fundamental question: will anything really change?
After two years of a Labour Government, the country faces many of the same problems it did on day one.
Economic growth remains sluggish, the cost of living continues to squeeze family budgets, businesses face higher taxes and increased employment costs and concerns over Britain’s long-term energy security remain unanswered.
A change of Prime Minister is constitutionally legitimate, but it does not remove the need for rigorous scrutiny and accountability.
It needs a government prepared to make difficult decisions, confront uncomfortable realities, and deliver results.
