A damaged hydro pole has led to the emergency closure of River Street between Bowes Street and Dufferin Street.\According to Parry Sound firefighter Oliver Moloney, the incident was caused due to a vehicle colliding with the hydro pole. “The hydro pole has been severely damaged and is instable at this point in time. We have had to evacuate several residences and shut down River Street to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic to make sure the scene is safe and secure,” he said. Moloney says Lakeland Power crews are responding to assess the pole damage, and that local officials are anticipating a long-term shut down of at least eight to ten hours. Residents and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
