The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced the full cast for its forthcoming production of Middlemarch, George Eliot’s novel of provincial life, adapted for the stage by Nina Raine and co-produced with Second Half Productions. Nia Towle will play Dorothea Brooke, with Amanda Root taking on the dual role of George Eliot and Mrs Cadwallader. Nia Towle returns to the RSC following her role in Hamlet, for which she received an Ian Charleson award nomination. John Hodgkinson returns to the RSC following stage roles including Dear England and The Ferryman, and screen credits including Napoleon and Skyfall. Middlemarch runs at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, from 1 October to 16 January.
