The operations were being conducted across Punjab, including Lahore, on the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem to curb the dangerous practice of kite flying and prevent accidents caused by hazardous kite strings. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, 4,769 accused were arrested and 4,589 cases registered in Lahore, where police also recovered 126,488 kites and 5,168 reels of string during the ongoing crackdown. The IGP had directed police officers to ensure strict and indiscriminate legal action against those involved in kite flying anywhere in the province. He also ordered action against individuals involved in the online sale and trade of kites and metallic string, directing police to identify and bring such elements to justice.
