The wife of former Arkansas State Rep. Austin McCollum has filed for divorce less than a week after his arrest on domestic violence-related charges and days after he resigned from the Arkansas House.
Court records show McCollum’s wife filed for divorce on August 7th, one day after seeking an order of protection against the former lawmaker.
The filings follow McCollum’s August 1st arrest on charges of third-degree domestic battery, aggravated assault on a family or household member and first-degree false imprisonment.
Investigators allege McCollum returned home intoxicated and began arguing with his wife before throwing several objects at her as the two went upstairs.
In the separate petition for an order of protection, McCollum’s wife alleged the August 1st incident was not the first time he had been physically violent toward her.
