PASIGHAT, 6 Aug: A delegation of the Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA), led by its president Dr Eli Doye and general secretary Dr Lige Sora, met APU Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi at his chamber here on Thursday and reiteratedthe APUTA’s longstanding demand for enhancement of the age of superannuation of university teachers from 60 to 65 years, in line with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
The APUTA said it had earlier submitted a memorandum on the matter to the governor, in his capacity as the chancellor of the university, on 30 October, 2025, but no significant progress has been observed on the issue in the nearly 10 months since.
The APUTA said that the existing retirement age at the APU does not conform to UGC recommendations, nor to the practice followed by a majority of central and state universities across the country.
The association told the VC that raising the superannuation age would help the university retain experienced faculty, strengthen academic leadership, ensure continuity in teaching, research and administration, and facilitate mentoring of younger faculty and research scholars.
Responding to the delegation, Dr Modi gave assurance that the matter would be taken up positively and pursued with the appropriate authorities at the earliest, the APUTA informed in a release.
