James Burky -Daily Camera, Boulder, Colo.Boulder voters will decide whether local firefighters’ collective bargaining powers will be enshrined in the city charter this November. The Boulder City Council voted unanimously on Thursday night to put a measure on the November ballot that, if passed, will codify full-time firefighters’ rights to collectively bargain in the city charter. The proposed charter amendment is the result of negotiations between the city and the Boulder Association of Firefighters, the local chapter of the International Association of Firefighters, according to council materials. The final version of the proposed amendment introduced management rights for the city, according to the memo. If voters approve the ballot measure, Boulder would join the likes of Denver and Pueblo as cities that have baked firefighters’ collective bargaining rights into their charters.
