An under-18s fundraising event in Newport has been brought to an early end after reports of disorder at the venue. Police were called to Strings on Orchard Street on Saturday night following reports of anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and violence towards security staff. Several people were detained on South Street and St James’ Street, while police worked to disperse crowds from the area. It was intended to be a supervised, alcohol-free night for 13 to 17-year-olds. However, the venue says the event had to be stopped after some attendees allegedly caused damage, smoked in the toilets and became violent towards security staff.
