The meeting was held amid speculation that the BJP and Tipra Motha were exploring a seat-sharing arrangement for the 587 village committee constituencies. Santosh, northeastern coordinator and MP Sambit Patra, and senior Tipra Motha leaders attended the discussions. According to sources, Tipra Motha has proposed a 70:30 seat-sharing formula, under which it would contest 70 per cent of the seats and the BJP the remaining 30 per cent. The negotiations assume significance as the BJP and Tipra Motha are partners in the Tripura Government but contested the recent TTAADC elections separately. Tipra Motha won 24 of the 28 elected seats, while the BJP secured four.
