Domino’s is getting singular with the launch of the “Domino,” a new Detroit-style pizza made for one person that will roll out in stores nationwide beginning Aug. 31.
It is topped with two layers of cheese, choice of sauce, and up to three toppings, and finished with a drizzle of the brand’s signature garlic seasoning.
During Domino’s second quarter earnings call in late July, CEO Russell Weiner said the product is “unlike anything we’ve ever offered before,” and “addresses an unmet consumer need … with a pizza that is unique to Domino’s.”
Domino’s second quarter same-store sales, for instance, were just 0.1%, while Papa Johns’ fell by over 8% and Pizza Hut declined by over 2%.
Both Papa Johns and Pizza Hut are closing hundreds of locations this year as part of system optimization efforts.
