BJP MP Nagen Roy's fresh remarks against Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose have triggered controversy, with the West Bengal BJP distancing itself from his comments. Speaking at a GCPA public meeting at Jabravita near Siliguri on Sunday, Roy described Netaji as a 'world criminal' and 'war criminal' and questioned his role in India's freedom struggle. Roy further claimed that it was the people of Cooch Behar who had secured India's independence. Roy also raised the issue of the rights of the indigenous people of Cooch Behar, claiming that they were the 'owners of the land'. The meeting was organised at Jabravita to commemorate August 9, the date associated with the historic merger agreement involving Cooch Behar.
