In my recent Psychology Today post, Why Humans Need a Creator: The Existential Imperative of Belief, I reframe faith as a cognitive shield for survival. When trauma breaks our belief in a structured world, it triggers deep disorientation, anxiety, and a sense of "meaning shock." To heal and rebuild, we have to establish new psychological support systems without falling back on denial or magical thinking. Instead, our task is to cultivate the capacity to logically and intentionally update our belief systems as new realities unfold. Just as our physical tools must evolve to meet novel environmental demands, our psychological contexts must adapt to foster genuine emotional endurance.
