Explaining the process, Cllr Nelson reminded members that expressions of interest in the building had been invited in 2024 before trustees agreed in principle to enter into an agreement for lease with Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub. Cllr Nelson also stressed that the agreement for lease had not yet been signed and would return to trustees before any lease was completed. Speaking on behalf of Sidmouth School of Art, Louise Cole said the project was about bringing a redundant building back into community use. Cllr Nelson responded: "The families work extremely closely with the School of Art and we're in constant contact with them." Closing the discussion, Cllr Nelson reminded residents that the project would still be subject to the normal planning process.
