Although the word Cyclospora has been discussed a lot in the media, some people don’t really know what it means. The name of the illness caused by the Cyclospora parasite is cyclosporiasis. The FDA has linked the Cyclospora outbreak to a lettuce supplier from Central Mexico. For other fruits and vegetables, cooking them until they reach an internal temperature of at least 158 degrees Fahrenheit is advised to effectively kill the Cyclospora parasite.
