Mr. McHugh, who was in his 60s, was the driver of a car involved in a collision with a van on the N3 at Drummallaght, between Virginia and Cavan, shortly before 2pm on Monday. Gardaí confirmed that the male driver of the car was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was taken to Cavan General Hospital with minor injuries. In a statement, the club said: “We, as a club, are devastated to hear of the tragic and untimely passing of one of our own, James McHugh. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the McHugh and O’Donnell families at this time and we pray for Noreen’s recovery.
