24 Island Nations Unite For Landmark Indigenous-Led ExhibitionFor the first time, 24 Moana Oceania island nations have come together to create a landmark Indigenous-led exhibition celebrating the rich knowledges and cultural practices of one of the world's most interconnected regions. Visitors will journey through centuries of Moana Oceania histories and cultures, encountering exhibits revealing the region's diversity and shared connection between peoples, lands, seas and skies. "For many of our Moana Oceania communities, our views have often been underrepresented, told through someone else's perspective, or not told at all. "Our Ocean of Islands represents our commitment to collaboration, trust and relationship-building with Moana Oceania communities,” says Vincent Lipanovich, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited New Zealand Maritime Museum Director. Opening weekend will feature free panel discussions with knowledge holders from across Moana Oceania, workshops and family-friendly activities, with additional events to be announced throughout the exhibition's run.
