The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the examination, has failed to safeguard the question papers, leading to two leaks in three years: the first in NEET 2024 and most recently, in NEET 2026. After the NEET 2024 leak, the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar Police named Sanjeev Kumar as the prime suspect. In 2016, the Uttarakhand Police arrested him for a constable recruitment examination paper leak. The investigation for the NEET 2024 leak was subsequently transferred to the CBI, and after nearly a year-long manhunt, Kumar was apprehended in April 2025. On the morning of Kumar’s release, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on X the setting up of fast-track courts dedicated to adjudicating examination paper-leak cases.
