Twenty penguins, made up of ten males and ten females, have joined the park as part of the European Endangered Species Programme, and have already begun exploring their purpose-built, £1.2 million habitat. Dr Charlotte MacDonald, animal director at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, said: "It’s fantastic to see the penguins enjoying their new home. "African penguins are fantastic birds with lots of character, and we know they’re going to be a real favourite with visitors." African penguins are the only bird species currently at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The park supports global conservation through its partnership with the WildLife Foundation and offers twice-daily ranger talks and educational displays about the penguins.
