This follows the introduction of free emergency contraception in pharmacies across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire, with about 1,000 consultations taking place each month between October 2025 and April 2026.
The figures come after the NHS began offering free access to the morning-after pill in community pharmacies, removing the need for a GP or sexual health clinic appointment.
Lisa Fisher, a community pharmacist and chair of Community Pharmacy Avon & Wiltshire, said: "Women can now visit their local pharmacy to access emergency contraception quickly and confidentially.
She said: "The introduction of free emergency contraception through community pharmacies has been a welcome step forward for women’s health.
Community pharmacies are accessible, offer extended opening hours, and provide private consultation rooms, making it easier for women to seek care when they need it.
