The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, has requested to be relieved of his position, according to two letters addressed to the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State. The Central Bank of Libya had not issued an official statement on the request. Takala said maintaining monetary and financial stability and ensuring the continuity of state institutions were particularly important given Libya’s current economic conditions. He urged Issa to continue regulating and monitoring commercial banks, with particular attention to controlling public expenditure and preventing violations involving government spending and foreign currency. Issa assumed office as Central Bank governor in October 2024.
