There is a stretch of the River Aire near Saltaire where you can often see herons, picking their way along the bank, and the return of otters has caused much local delight. It is also why Yorkshire Water's newly-published annual results are so utterly appalling. Yorkshire Water states that pollution incidents rose by a horrifying 72 per cent over the last year, from 151 to 260. The River Aire and the River Wharfe flow through large parts of my constituency, including Bingley, Esholt, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Shipley and beyond. All at the same time, consumer bills are set to rise by an average of 41 per cent by 2030 to pay for the investment Yorkshire Water says is needed.
