Bradford Crown Court heard how Finley Lambert denied what he had done and went to trial where, on the fourth day as a jury was deliberating, he changed his pleas to guilty saying he "could no longer live a lie."
In mitigation the court heard that Lambert, now 20, of no fixed abode, Bradford, had no previous convictions.
He was also said to suffer from depression, low self-esteem, and suicidal behaviour that had continued whilst in custody.
He said Lambert’s behaviour made him an offender of particular concern, which meant he must serve two-thirds of his sentence before his case can be considered by the parole board.
He also extended Lambert’s period on licence by 12 months and ordered him to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period of time.
