The incident lasted more than 12 hours, with road closures in place from 7.15 am until 8.20 pm. During the operation, a resident in Carlisle provided officers with a chocolate bar and a brew. Eden Police shared a post on social media, writing: "This post is just to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU! To the resident in CARLISLE who looked after us by providing us with a chocolate bar and a brew! A spokesperson for Cumbria Police thanked the public "for their patience whilst officers worked to resolve this incident safely for all involved."
