Romeo Mihai, 20, pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and sexual assault at Lewes Crown Court, sitting in Hove, on Monday morning (August 10). The woman, aged 19, said she was attacked on Eastbourne beach on the night of July 9 this year. The woman - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - told police she was raped on the beach late at night near the bandstand on Eastbourne seafront. Mr Mihai was remanded into custody and will be tried at the same court in January next year. He denies oral and anal rape, two counts of sexual assault by touching, and sexual assault by digital penetration of the anus.
