The WCR Group is seeking planning permission for the new venture at a site in Caerphilly Business Park, where a mixture of singles and doubles indoor padel courts have been proposed. The racquet sport combines elements of squash and tennis, and has grown in popularity across the UK in recent years. A supporting statement by Avante Architects argues the location would create a “good link” to the council’s new Caerphilly Leisure and Wellbeing Hub, which is currently under construction. The padel venture is independent of the leisure centre, but the agents said its addition “in a sense, expands the range of activities” available in the area, and will have good access for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0494/FULL.
