Pendragon Theatre, the region’s only year-round professional theater company, received $750,000 in public and private funding to finish the transformation of its permanent home in Saranac Lake.
This final round of funding adds to the $11 million that went in to turning a vacant Saranac Lake grocery store into a performing arts venue.
According to the governor’s office, New York State contributed more than $6.2 million to the project through a Downtown Revitalization grant.
“What was just a vacant grocery store in the middle of the Saranac Lake community was transformed into not only a performing arts space but also a year-round gathering space that residents and visitors can call home,” Hochul said.
Community members in Saranac Lake said the theater is culturally significant to the region and the completion of the funding marks a major milestone.
