'Legend' who ran city chippy for almost 40 years dies aged 74
['Julia Baker']
Hereford Times | News
Barry 'Baz' Young, who served generations of customers at College Green Chip Shop in Hereford, died aged 74, his family confirmed.
Mr Young ran the popular business for 38 years, having taken it over in 1986 before retiring in 2024.
The chip shop was truly a family affair, with his wife, daughters, and the late Roy Harper—partner to Alison—all contributing over the years.
Mr Young was also known for his love of running and rafting and took part in the London Marathon, and would often socialise in many of the city's pubs.
Ms Young and other family members described Mr Young as sarcastic, witty, and like a "pillar of strength to the customers", and someone who was focused on the community.
