Leslie William Collett, 74, from Newport, died on June 27, 2026, and was identified by a prison officer. An inquest has been opened as it is the death of a serving prisoner. An inquest will be held on May, 4 2027 at 10am and the matter will be adjourned until then. Collett was jailed for 12 years in August 2020 for historical sex offences committed against a school boy aged between 13 and 14. The court heard how Collet raped his victim in his lorry which he was driving while he worked for a company based in Newport Docks.
