Figures published yesterday (August 10), show that this has declined further, with storage currently at 62.1 per cent, holding 61,7760 megalitres of water. While the Elan Valley reservoirs were built to store water for Birmingham, they feed into the River Wye where Hereford's drinking water is abstracted before being treated. River levels remain low across the region, with the Environment Agency recording the River Wye at Belmont at 0.10 metres, unchanged since August 8. The drought extends across Wales, where Natural Resources Wales declared official drought status after intense heat and extremely low rainfall. Most rivers in Wales are now at exceptionally low levels, including the Clwyd, Dyfi, Wye and Usk.
