News from Kelburn Residents AssociationThe Kelburn community is united in its opposition to a new 5G cellphone tower and associated cabinets proposed for installation by Spark in the heart of their village. Telecommunications expert and Kelburn resident Dr Mary Redmayne says: “From permitted transmission details available on GISGeek, well documented information on those frequencies, and from my former experience in this field, it appears that Kelburn is already well served. Other sites could provide better coverage for Spark in Northland (one of the intended targets of the proposed Kelburn site).” “A transmitting tower, as proposed, could pose a microwave exposure threat by bringing children closer to the transmitters.” Sarah Wilcox, resident, parishioner and Coordinator of Kelburn Conservation Network, started the petition and has been helping to raise awareness in the local community.
