A 36-year-old from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place and taken into custody. A police spokeswoman said there had been no reports that the knife had been used or that anyone was injured. When asked for an update, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said the man has been released under investigation pending further inquiries. After the arrest, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We had a report of a male acting suspiciously on Warrington Road, close to the entrance to Whiston Hospital. "There are no reports the knife was used, or that anyone was injured."
