A team from the Ghost and Paranormal Society North Essex (GAPS) spent around four hours at night investigating the Jolly Roger theatre, built in 1893.
They visited after staff and contractors reported strange experiences during preparations for the upcoming Clacton FEAR Halloween event.
"There is paranormal activity there, including cold spots, and I believe it may have been from when the time when the Jolly Roger was used as a circus.
The Jolly Roger, once known as the Pier Theatre and Jollity Theatre, was originally built as an indoor venue with seating for up to 1,500 people and additional space on the balcony.
"Part of the floor had been removed in the early 1980s when the Jolly Roger had been home to Sally Chipperfield’s circus for a season."
