East Boston has a new all-day gathering space: Pomona Café & Wine Bar opened last month in Maverick Square. The Pomona Café & Wine Bar brand isn’t new; this location is loosely affiliated with one in Swampscott (the original Winthrop location has since closed) but operates under separate ownership. Villegas, a frequent diner at the Swampscott restaurant, was hired as the general contractor for the planned East Boston outpost. In fact, the original concept for the East Boston restaurant was more of a casual café.
