Officials said that the Telangana Excise Department increased the prices of Scotch and top vodka brands without prior information to licensed wine dealers. During purchase order, the wine leaders were given the invoices with revised prices of the top liquor brands. The Price Fixing Committee, appointed by the government, already reviewed the proposal to enhance the liquor prices and submitted its report to the government recently. The state Excise Department is expected to generate Rs 200 crore additional revenue every month through the increase in liquor prices. The liquor prices were increased by Rs 10 per cent per quarter in May last year.
