India continues APAAR student ID rollout as adoption campaign expands

An Indian state minister has reiterated the importance of owning the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) student digital ID, saying it facilitates student admissions and transfers from one academic institution to another.
Singh underscored the vision of India’s central government in introducing the student ID, noting that it was intended to put in place a transparent and reliable system for managing students’ records.
Discontent was sparked last year when government authorities made the student ID mandatory for Board exams, but authorities quickly defended the move.
The ruling requires an explicit option in the APAAR consent form that allows parents to either opt out or refuse consent to the creation of an APAAR ID for their children.
