Plateau State saw another deadly run of attacks that killed civilians and security personnel and left others abducted. But the government’s announcement that all 176 victims had been freed was quickly challenged by the community. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described the Aug. 5 operation as “the largest rescue operation ever carried out” in a single day.
