CII warns AI skills gap could undermine adoption

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has warned that firms risk adopting artificial intelligence faster than employees can understand and challenge the technology.
The professional body said a “critical AI fluency gap” across insurance and personal finance could undermine the responsible use of AI and weaken firms’ ability to govern it effectively.
The CII said boards, risk functions and customer-facing staff need practical AI training that goes beyond learning how to use individual tools.
The report also warned firms against treating the presence of a “human in the loop” as a sufficient safeguard on its own.
The CII said it plans to support the development of AI policy frameworks, continuing professional development, benchmarking, maturity models and live playbooks.
