Sweden's repeal of its 2018 uranium mining ban in January, followed by easing of permitting regulations in July, has revived interest in two of the world's largest undeveloped uranium deposits. But analysts caution these projects will take at least 15 years to enter production because neither has defined reserves and they still have to get environmental permits, a process that can be lengthy and litigious in Sweden. For now, the companies are relying on resource estimates of their deposits that they now plan to drill and study further to demonstrate they can be mined economically.
