The call to Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service came in at 5.43pm last night (Sunday, August 9) with reports of a fire at Greenways Landfill site, Appleford Sidings, Sutton Courtenay. Black smoke could be seen billowing from a fire at the Didcot landfill site, and this was spotted from miles away in all directions. In a Facebook post, Cllr Ian Snowdon, who represents Didcot, said: "A large fire has broken out at the Didcot landfill site this evening, with emergency services currently on scene. Eight fire crews attended the scene, and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue also dispatched a multi-terrain water carrier. A new update has now been provided by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service this morning (Monday, August 10).
