Reflect Orbital plans to launch a demonstration satellite equipped with a giant reflective mirror that can redirect sunlight onto selected areas of Earth after sunset. How the Space Mirror Will WorkThe company’s first satellite, named Eärendil-1, is expected to operate in low Earth orbit. It will carry an ultra-thin reflective mirror measuring roughly 18 meters (60 feet) across. By carefully adjusting the mirror’s angle, the satellite will reflect sunlight toward specific locations on Earth during twilight or nighttime. Construction projects, remote industrial sites, and scientific expeditions could also benefit from additional natural illumination without relying solely on artificial lighting.
