Canada has temporarily suspended operations at its embassy in Juba, South Sudan, with responsibility for diplomatic and consular services being transferred to its mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Diplomatic relations with South Sudan will now be managed by the Embassy of Canada in Addis Ababa.
Canada’s outgoing ambassador to South Sudan, Joanne Minns, met President Salva Kiir on July 23, 2026, to bid farewell at the end of her tenure.
South Sudan joins neighboring Sudan, where Canada has also suspended embassy operations.
Despite the diplomatic move, South Sudan remained a significant recipient of Canadian assistance.
