The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded a vigilance inquiry into alleged irregularities in the disbursement of loans under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and recruitment of pre-primary instructors and ayahs in Khammam district. Former MLA and BRS leader Sandra Venkata Veeraiah alleged that the PMEGP scheme, intended to promote self-employment among unemployed youth, was being diverted through alleged collusion among intermediaries, political functionaries, and bank officials. Veeraiah demanded that the District Collector constitute a Vigilance inquiry committee immediately and sought suspension of the Sathupalli branch manager and other officials found responsible for the alleged irregularities. The BRS leader also alleged manipulation in the recruitment of pre-primary instructors and ayahs in the district. He claimed that, contrary to the prescribed merit-based selection process, interview marks had been introduced, with 30 marks allegedly earmarked for interviews for pre-primary instructor posts and 50 marks for ayah posts.
