Namibia is projected to experience warmer-than-normal temperature conditions during the August to October 2026 seasons, as Africa prepares for the anticipated 2026/2027 El Niño episode.
With El Niño expected to affect key socio-economic sectors across the continent, the engagement consolidated sub-regional forecasts into a harmonised continental outlook for the July to October season.
Global forecasting centres project a strong El Niño later this year, with peak conditions expected between October and December.
Based on the current El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) status and forecast evolution of the influencing factors, the ACCOF anticipates warmer-than-normal conditions across most parts of Africa during July to September.
While normal to above-normal rainfall is expected over the eastern coastal Southern Africa, much of the Southern African region is expected to experience normal to below-normal rainfall and extended dry spells during the season.
